I am Dinushka Sewwandi. Between 2023 and 2024, I was part of the ECLIPSE programme (Empowering People with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis: Intervention Programme to Reduce Stigma and Improve Community Education), a UK NIHR-funded global health initiative that brings together partners from Brazil, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, and the UK to improve the lives of people affected by cutaneous leishmaniasis. The ECLIPSE Sri Lanka project was delivered by the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences (FMAS), Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL), where I worked as a research assistant. Currently, I serve in the administrative sector of the Government as a Grama Niladhari (GN), where my primary responsibility is to strengthen the relationship between the government and the people and to support the fulfillment of governmental functions on their behalf. The experience I gained from working with the ECLIPSE programme has been invaluable in preparing me for these responsibilities.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and have a strong interest in advancing community empowerment, engagement, and involvement in health research. I am now planning to pursue a Master’s degree with a focus on health communication and social science. I am eager to engage with CHaI as a platform to learn from diverse perspectives, share experiences, and build collaborations.
