My name is Felipe Meireles, a Brazilian psychologist and researcher, currently pursuing a Master's degree at the Institute of Public Health at the Federal University of Bahia. Born and raised in the state of Bahia, my main research interest lies in thinking about mental health in rural Brazilian communities, investigating the symbolic, sociocultural, and care dimensions surrounding psychological suffering in these populations.
During my undergraduate studies in Psychology, I had the opportunity to join ECLIPSE (Empowering People with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis) as an Intern, actively participating in the project's ethnographic and artistic investigations. It was from this experience that I began to dedicate myself to scientific research at the intersection of public health and medical anthropology. At the moment, I work as a Researcher Assistant for the ORI project (NIHR Global Health Research Group on Racism and Social Inequalities in Mental Health in Brazil), investigating mental health, racism, and social inequities in quilombola communities in Bahia.
I hope that through CHaI, I will continue to improve my discussions and studies on the sociocultural dimension of the health-illness-care process, as well as engage in exchanges with researchers of diverse nationalities and backgrounds.
